Van Hire Suffolk and Cambridgeshire

Selecting the right type of van for the job is an important part of the hire process, which is why here at Rent Direct, our team works with you to source the ideal vehicle.

Perhaps you need a van to help move house, ferry items for an event, or for business purposes. It may even be that you require a replacement van while yours is being serviced or repaired. Whatever your needs, we offer competitively priced short-term and long-term van rental to ensure you get the job done.

We also specialise in providing Car Hire and MPV Hire to customers across East Anglia and beyond. All of our vehicles are of the highest quality with models from leading manufacturers, so the choice is yours! Every one of our hire vans is equipped with all the mod-cons for a more comfortable and stress-free driving experience.

When you rent a van from Rent Direct, you’ll also benefit from fully comprehensive insurance and breakdown cover as standard, meaning you can get on with the job in hand with complete peace of mind.

Our Van Rental Fleet

The Rent Direct van fleet consists of the very best models around, from leading brands such as Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Vauxhall and Volkswagen in both long wheelbase and short wheelbase layout. Find a van that’s fit for the job from our selection of short wheelbase and long wheelbase options, along with car-derived vans and Luton box vans complete with a tail lift.

Our Luton box vans prove extremely popular thanks to the added benefit of tail lift equipment. For heavy goods and awkward-sized cargo, a tail lift is a vital addition in helping to save time when loading and unloading - while taking the strain away from your back too. All of our vans come ply-lined as standard, but we leave the anchor points exposed so that you can secure your items during travel.

Van Hire Sizes

What size van is best suited to which task? Calculating the van size is important so that you receive the right van for the job. Each of the hire vans listed on our website comes complete with dimension details, including; load length, load width, load height, and load weight/payload. We’d recommend you overestimate the size of the van needed, so that you aren’t caught short when loading all your items. We’ve explained more about our hire van sizes, below…

Van Hire Group V1 - Car Derived Vans

Car-derived vans are our smallest-size of vans for hire here at Rent Direct. As the name suggests, car-derived vans are the same size as a car, so prove easy to drive if you’ve never driven a standard-sized van before. Car-derived vans can comfortably seat two people and have a load carrying capacity of 1.5 cubic metres.

Example models: Ford Transit Connect and Vauxhall Combo.

Van Hire Group V2 - Short Wheelbase Vans

Short wheelbase vans are medium-sized vehicles. A van’s wheelbase is determined by the distance between the centre-points of the front and rear wheels. Short wheelbase vans are typically 2.4 metres long, have a load carrying capacity of 5.5 cubic metres and can comfortably seat three people.

Example models: Ford Transit Custom and Volkswagen Transporter.

Van Hire Group V3 - Long Wheelbase Vans

Long wheelbase vans are medium to large-sized vans that are longer in length compared to short wheelbase models. Long wheelbase vans are typically 3.4 metres long, have a larger load carrying capacity of 9.5 cubic metres and can also comfortably seat three people.

Example models: Ford Transit L3 and Volkswagen Crafter MWB.

Van Hire Group V5 - Luton Box Van with Tail Lift

Luton box vans are designed for maximum storage space and quite literally look like a box on wheels! A Luton box van is large in size with high and wide dimensions, making it particularly perfect for house moves. In comparison to short wheelbase and long wheelbase vans, a Luton box van is typically 4 metres long, 2.2 metres wide, and 2.2 metres high. It has a carrying capacity of 16.5 cubic metres and can comfortably seat three people in the cabin.

The added benefit of a Luton box van is the accompanying tail lift equipment. Positioned at the rear of the vehicle, a tail lift helps to load those heavy and awkward-shaped items and can bear the weight of up to 500kgs.

Example models: Volkswagen Crafter Luton Box with tail lift and Ford Transit Luton Box with tail lift.

Payload

Payload is a term used to describe the maximum weight a van is legally allowed to carry. The payload amount includes the van’s weight itself, a full tank of fuel, the amount of passengers it can seat, and the amount of cargo it can carry. It’s really important not to overload a vehicle above the recommended payload, as this will put the chassis under immense strain and could cause major damage to the vehicle.
